New political party floated in Manipur

 IMPHAL, June 19 – A new political party, called Manipur Democratic People’s Front (MDPF), has been floated in the State, G Tonsana, president of the new party informed.

The president said that the party was formed in September 2010 and had applied to the Election Commission for recognition in the same month. The ECI has registered it under section 29A of the Representation of the Peoples Act, 1951, as a political party, on April 26 last, as per an intimation of the ECI secretary Varinder Kumar to him, he said.

The party will not be entitled to the reservation of any exclusive symbol. However, candidates set up by the party at an election will be entitled the benefits of preference in allotment of free symbols over Independent candidates under paragraph 12 of the Election Symbol (Reservation & Allotment Order 1968, he said.

The party will work for the betterment of the people of the State, he assured while announcing that the party will field candidates to at least 30 Assembly constituencies in the coming Assembky polls.
