|Seven children rescued in Cachar|
SILCHAR, June 16 - As many as seven children were rescued by officials of the District Task Force against Child Labour during raids conducted at Jalalpur and Kalain areas under Cachar district on Friday night.
Sources in the district administration informed on Saturday that based on prior information, the Task Force team raided hotels, engineering workshops, restaurants, tea stalls and auto workshops and rescued the children who had been engaged in working. FIRs have been lodged at the Katigorah police station against the owners of the respective establishments.
Sources informed that under the existing provisions of Child and Adolescent Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act 1986, if the employers are convicted, they might have to serve a jail term of not less than six months which may extend up to 2 years or will be fined not less than Rs 20,000 and the penalty may extend to Rs 50,000 or both fine and imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the rescued children were taken to the rehabilitation centre for temporary shelter, proper counselling from where they will be produced before Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in consultation with the Labour Welfare Department.
