GUWAHATI, June 16 - Samim Sultana Ahmed, president of the Gender Council of Journalists Union of Assam (JUA), a State affiliate of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU), has been elected as one of the members of the steering committee of the Gender Council of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).
Ahmed, News Editor of Agradoot, was elected during the 30th Congress of the IFJ held at Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, from June 11 to June 14.
Around 300 delegates from countries across the world attended the Congress, which was held with a call for unity and solidarity of journalists worldwide.
The Congress adopted four motions on safety and security of journalists in India, special law for protection of journalists, wage board, gender equality in journalism and safety of women at newsroom and during field work, ethical journalism, etc, presented by Indian Journalists Union.
The Congress elected Younes M’ Jahed of Morocco as the new president of IFJ. Sabina Inderjit, secretary general of IJU, was elected as the vice president of IFJ.
