Cong, AIUDF members join BJP
Correspondent
MORIGAON, June 16 - In a setback to the Congress and AIUDF, 10 members of the former and eight others of the latter – all members of the Lahorighat Anchalik Panchayat – joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday. Rajen Gohain, Nagaon MP, and Pijush Hazarika, Jagiroad MLA, welcomed these members to the BJP. The Lahorighat Anchalik Panchayat has 24 members and in the last panchayat election, the Congress won 15 seats and the AIUDF claimed eight seats. Only one seat was captured by the BJP.

Significantly, all the members who joined the BJP on Wednesday have raised a no-confidence motion against the chairperson of the Lahorighat Anchalik Panchayat, Juli Hajowari, and proposed the name of Momi Pator (BJP) in Hajowari’s place.
