Dr Balit Kumar Deka Award instituted

 GUWAHATI, June 14 - The Zoological Society of Assam (ZSA) has decided to institute Dr Balit Kumar Deka Memorial Award in memory of Dr Deka, a former Head of the Department of Zoology, Cotton College, who breathed his last on June 19 last year.

The ZSA has decided to institute the award following a proposal from the family members of Dr Balit Kumar Deka, according to a press release issued here today.

The ZSA decision was adopted at its June 7, 2018 executive committee meeting held under the presidentship of its president Priyabrata Lahkar. On behalf of the family of Dr Deka, his wife Anjana Deka moved the proposal.

Accordingly, the ZSA executive committee decided to present a cash award in memory of Dr Deka to a student who would be able to secure highest marks among the Zoology major students of the State in the BSc final examination appearing from any one of the universities of Gauhati, Dibrugarh, Bodoland and the Silchar-based Assam University. The award will carry a cash award of Rs 10,000 and a certificate of appreciation from the ZSA.

The Dr Balit Kumar Deka Memorial Award 2018 will be given away in the ensuing annual general body meeting- cum-national seminar of the ZSA, scheduled to be held at the Pragjyotish College here on September 20 next, added the press release.
