UDALGURI, June 12 - Along with several other parts of the State, college and schoolgoing students, besides members of the Udalguri regional committee of the Asomiya Yuva Manch, Zubeen Fan Club, Udalguri district committee of AJYCP and leading citizens brought out a candlelight rally on Sunday evening from the Executive Club premises to the Swahid Bedi and shouted slogans by waving placards demanding award of exemplary punishment to the culprits involved in the lynching of two young artistes of Guwahati on Friday evening at Kathilangso in Panjuri village under Dokmoka Police Station in Karbi Anglong district.
The candlelight rally later ended at the All Assam Students’ Union’s Swahid Bedi and prayed for granting of eternal peace to the departed souls.
Meanwhile, it has come to light that three unknown Hindi-speaking youths were attacked by a mob at No. 2 Rajagarh village under Dimakuchi Police Station in Udalguri district on Friday evening which left them with serious injuries.
Later, Dimakuchi police rescued the trio and sent them to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.
In the meantime, Udalguri Police is maintaining strict vigil in the backdrop of the Dokmoka incident and has appealed to the public of the district not to be swayed by rumours or indulge in talk which might incite communal tension.
They also urged the people to keep in close touch with the police to avoid any such unpleasant situation in the district.
