Protests over lynching incident continue

 DIBRUGARH, June 12 - As a sign of solidarity and mark of protest against the barbaric killing of Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath by a mob in Karbi Anglong, All Dibrugarh District Students’ Union today staged a two-hour sit-in demonstration inside their office campus here.

The student body of the district has demanded that the perpetrators of the crime are subjected to immediate stringent punishment. While condemning the barbarous act, they also urged upon the State government to ensure that such barbarism did not recur.

Cross section of people from the city including students of MDKG College, DHSK Commerce College and DHSK College also expressed solidarity by lighting candles and taking out a peaceful procession at Chowkidinghee last evening. While paying tributes to Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath, the public here have condemned the incident and demanded justice for the victims. The programme was organized under the initiative of Nabajagaran in collaboration with the student unions of the three colleges.

KOKRAJHAR: Along with rest parts of Assam, protests were held against the merciless lynching of two Assamese youths, Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath by a mob in the Panjuri Kachari village of Karbi Anglong. The inhuman act, which is believed to have been triggered by a fake ‘Whatsapp’ rumour on child lifters, has been condemned severely here.

People of different walks of life came out and gathered at Pragati Bhaban premises in the heart of Kokrajhar town this evening under the banner of Kokrajhar Sanskritik Samaj and lit candles for the eternal peace of the departed souls.

Meanwhile, members of Assam Nath Yogi Students’ Union, Kokrajhar district unit also gathered around Balajan Tiniali in Kokrajhar this evening and lit candles to seek peace for the departed souls. They also demanded justice for the helpless victims.

Meanwhile, the Bodoland University Students’ Union staged a protest against the killing incidents of two youths in Karbi Anglong at the premises of Bodoland University on Monday evening. The students of BU, local intellectuals and well-wishers took part in the demonstration.

The BU students union also called upon the people to stop communal hatred and to come together to fight against superstitious beliefs.

NALBARI: Students from different educational institutions of Nalbari town took out a silent procession holding candles at Nalbari town last evening in protest against brutal killing of two city artistes at Panjuri village under Dokmoka Police Station in Karbi Anglong district recently.

The rally taken out from the premises of Nalbari Commerce College passed through the main thoroughfares of Nalbari town. Finally, the protesters gathered at Nalbari Gol Park of Thana Chawk and lit earthen lamps and candles for the eternal peace of the departed souls of Nilotpal and Abhijit.

The student body of Nalbari College also offered prayers for the peace of the departed souls by lighting earthen lamps at the college campus. The Nalbari district committee of the Bajrang Dal also lit earthen lamps at the Gol Park. The Dal has severely condemned the brutal killing of the youths.
