Curfew lifted in Garo Hills

 SHILLONG, June 12 – Curfew in Dalu area in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district was lifted today after law and order returned to normal.

 The curfew clamped on Saturday evening was relaxed from 6 am to 5 pm, Inspector General of Police FD Sangma said.

The decision was arrived at following a review of the situation at a high level meeting convened by the district authorities and the police yesterday, he said.

Police arrested two Garo tribal chiefs and seven other persons for inciting violence in Dalu area last Saturday in which a woman was killed, a few injured and property damaged.

Police said night curfew would remain in force as a precautionary measure. – PTI
