Daring dacoity in city, one dead

 GUWAHATI, June 12 – A group of eight to nine miscreants looted valuables and cash worth a sizeable amount in broad daylight today after breaking into the house of one Basaruddin Ahmed, a retired Professor, located at Machkhowa area.

 A few minutes after the dacoits left, Yasmin Ahmed (53), the wife of Basaruddin Ahmed died apparently due to a heart attack. However, police said the actual cause of the death would be ascertained after the post- mortem.

Basaruddin and their housemaid Moshwura Begum, who was also present when the miscreants broke in, sustained injuries.

According to police, the dacoits entered the house around 10.30 am and tied Basaruddin, his wife and the housemaid and left the place with the loot within half an hour.

“We have questioned both Basaruddin Ahmed and the housemaid in this connection and the investigation is on,” police said.

No one was arrested till the time of filing this report.
