Spl Court asks CBI to re-investigate Ram murder
Staff reporter
GUWAHATI, June 8 – The Special Court today rejected the CBI’s closure report in the murder case of former FCI executive director PC Ram and directed the investigating body to probe the case again by a ‘responsible officer’.

The court, considering the petition filed by Ram’s son Praveen Kumar Gautam, also asked the CBI to re-investigate the case.

Gautam had challenged the CBI’s closure report before the court and submitted evidence, including double post-mortem reports and case diary, appealing to the court to direct the CBI to re-look into the case.

Gautam’s counsel Nekibur Zaman told this reporter that the judge rejected the CBI’s report and asked it to further investigate the case by ‘another responsible officer and submit the report’.

However, no specific time frame has been fixed. The CBI had earlier submitted its closure report in the case, stating that it could not carry on further investigation due to lack of evidence.

Executive director of FCI (NE), Ram was killed in a cross-fire between security forces and ULFA militants on July 11, 2007, after he was abducted from Guwahati in April that year.
