Tezpur BSS wants Bodo-medium teachers
Correspondent
TEZPUR, June 7 – Strongly criticising the alleged lackasidical attitude of the Education department towards the appointment of TET-qualified teachers in Bodo-medium schools, the Tezpur district Boro Sahitya Sabha urged the Education Minister to appoint in the Bodo-medium LP schools only the candidates coming from Bodo-medium background.

In a press release, president and secretary of TDBSS, Liladhar Boro and Prasanta Boro, said that there are altogether 78 Bodo-medium LP schools in Sonitpur district and against these 78 Bodo-medium LP schools, a total of 21 TET-qualified teachers have been appointed. However, TDBSS alleged that out of these, only 11 candidates are from Bodo-medium background, while the remaining 10 are from non-Bodo-medium background who, they said, will not be able to provide education to the Bodo-medium school going children in a proper manner.

Saying that the act of appointment of teachers in Bodo-medium LP schools without the knowledge and command in Bodo language is a crime as per the Right to Education Act (RTE), the Sabha urged the Education Minister to review the matter so that the Bodo-medium children are not deprived of proper education. The TDBSS also warned the authority concerned, particularly the district level office of the elementary education and block elementary education office, against finalising the appointment of new teachers in the Bodo-medium schools, those who are not from Bodo medium background as such candidates will not be able to adjust in the Bodo medium schools.

The organisation stated that at a time when the Education department is taking up various policies to enhance the State education sector, such discrimination towards the children of Assam’s aboriginal people with such vague policies is definitely unfortunate. “So we urge the Education Minister to rectify the same considering the entire issue so the national organisation need not take to the street demanding rectification of the same.
