Students take part in environment awareness progs

 GUWAHATI, June 4 - On the eve of World Environment Day, the Airports Authority of India, Guwahati officials invited school children from the nearby areas to participate in an environmental conservation awareness programme held at LGBI Airport today.

The students of MKME School, Garal (near Guwahati Airport) were greeted with environment-friendly gift items. A drawing and sketching skills competition to promote environment conservation practice was organised for them.

Interacting with the children, Sanjeev Jindal, regional executive director, AAI-North East Region, said the school children have a major role to play in spreading awareness about the ill effects of pollution. “I wish that they will set examples in the area of conservation of the environment,” he said.

Later, Jindal also gave away prizes to all the school children who took part in the campaign.

The students along with their teachers also visited the air traffic control office and the airport terminal building. The short educational trip was arranged to make them aware of the discipline and cleanliness the AAI employees maintain and practice in their daily lives.

Ramesh Kumar, airport director, LGBI Airport, interacted with the school children and facilitated them on the occasion.

In his message to the students, he said it is the need of the hour to promote environment-friendly items and resources to be used in daily life and it should be incorporated in their syllabus and part of their activities.

Senior AAI officials and related stakeholders were also present on the occasion.

Awareness progs elsewhere: City-based NGO Avas Foundation today conducted an awareness drive and plantation activity at the Dhirenpara Maternity and Child Welfare Hospital on the eve of World Environment Day.

Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Birkuchi, is celebrating World Environment Week from June 1, which will continue till June 7. As part of the programme, the school is conducting plantation drive, art and quiz competitions, rally, streetplays, etc.
