DIMAPUR, June 3 - With the confirmation of nine more positive cases today, Nagalandís COVID-19 tally has touched 58. All the patients are returnees from Chennai, who had arrived in a Shramik Special train on May 22.
They are undergoing treatment in government COVID hospitals at Dimapur, Kohima and Tuensang. None of them has recovered yet, and there is no report of any death due to COVID-19 so far.
Meanwhile, the quarantine centre set up at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima will become operational from Thursday. The multipurpose hall and badminton court in the stadium have been converted into a temporary quarantine centre. Renovation and transformation works for converting the structure into a dormitory for returnees had commenced on May 27.
The quarantine centre has been divided into cubicles, which will be able to accommodate around 470 people. It has been provided with proper lavatories, power supply and running water.
The Nagaland Government will provide food and other basic items to the inmates, while the district task force will maintain and streamline the process of admitting returnees from various States, to the quarantine centre.
Several churches have volunteered to manage the common kitchen to help cater to the needs of the returnees.
