|South Garo Hills to get infrastructure upgrade|
BAGHMARA, June 3 - After decades of neglect, the South Garo Hills (SGH) district may finally get a much needed infrastructure boost after more than 20 road projects worth over Rs 200 crore being earmarked for the district. MLA of Siju-Rongara, Rakkam Sangma said that the proposed 7th MLP battalion would be based in the district head quarter Baghmara.
“I met Meghalaya Home Minister James PK Sangma in his chamber and submitted a request to consider Baghmara as the headquarter of the proposed 7th MLP Battalion, to which he agreed,” said Rakkam.
The new battalion headquarter is expected to be lodged at Masighat Lotnagar/Gittingre in Baghmara.
The MLA also added that projects under PMGSY, RIDF, CRF, etc., worth over Rs 200 crore were sanctioned for the 2018-19 financial year. This includes an impetus to tourism and other sectors.
