|Unique 200th b’day celebration of banyan tree|
PATACHARKUCHI, June 3 – While Environment Day is being celebrated on June 5 every year by nature lovers throughout the globe in order to generate awareness among the masses about environment and its preservation, a group of nature lovers here at Jalikhata have planned to celebrate 200 years of a banyan tree spread over four bighas of land. They are going to celebrate the 200th birthday with various programme to mark the World Environment Day and as well as to raise the demand to preserve the tree in a scientific way and save it from erosion of the Kaldia river.
The local people believe that the tree has completed two hundred years and people from various nooks and corners of the State and even from outside have visited the place. Hence there is a great scope to develop the place into a tourist place. They feel that it is a property of the nation. The people of the locality are already running a ‘Sivathan’ in the name of ‘Sivathan Santi Niketan Janaseva Ashram’ and every year Siva Chaturdashi is celebrated here where people come from long distances.
On June 5 they will celebrate the completion of 200 years of the tree by cutting a cake weighing 50 kg. Besides various religious programmes, flag hoisting, plantation, ‘Bhagabat Path’, ‘hom janja’, an open meeting and felicitation will be held where a large number of guests have been invited. Achyutananda Dev Goswami will be in chair in the open meting and Ananta Mohan Sarma will declare open the meeting. Jayanta Malla Barua, MLA Nalbari LAC, Manoranjan Das, MLA Patacharkuchi, Dharani Dhar Baro, ACF, Manas National Park, Tarini Medhi, RK Mehta, social worker, Maini Mahanta, editor, Nandini, singer Tarali Sarma, JP Das, Music director Biman Baruah, singer Anindita Paul, have consented to attend the programme. A booklet on various information will be released by Ramendra Nath Sarma SDO (C) Bajali. A documentary release and show will be done by Arindam Swargiary, field director Manas National Park. In the evening entire celebration will be concluded by illumination of light by Ratan Lahkar.
