Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, June 1 - ‘National Day of Mourning’ was observed today in more than a dozen locations across the State by Asom Mahila Sangha in memory of those who passed away owing to reasons linked to the lockdown and to resent the adversities faced by the migrant labourers and other working class population in recent days.

Responding to a nationwide call given by the Right to Food Campaign and National Federation of Indian Women, the Asom Mahila Sangha paid tribute to the migrant workers who lost their lives during their homebound journeys to various States. Units of the organisation in Guwahati, Sivasagar, Morigaon, Jorhat, Dhemaji and Golaghat also voiced concern at the problems being faced by the workers, women and children due to the COVID-induced situation and the subsequent lockdown.

In Guwahati, the organisation carried out an activity in Rajgarh locality, observing all social distancing norms.

State president of the Sangha Asomi Gogoi said that apart from expressing solidarity with the workers and migrant labourers, they also highlighted the issues being faced by the tea garden workers and rural population of Assam.
