|State student in US as ‘Wetland Ambassador’|
BONGAIGAON, June 1 - The answer is always no, until you ask. With this belief, 29-year-old Priyanka Sarkar of Bongaigaon visited an American university as a ‘Wetland Ambassador’ to share her knowledge with the wetland scientists of America.
Being awarded a Wetland Ambassador Research Fellowship for the Summer of 2019 by the Society of Wetland Scientists in the USA, Priyanka visited Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA) to work under the guidance of the university’s Assistant Professor Elizabeth Watson on the project: ‘Can biochar increase carbon sequestration in wetland restoration projects?’
The project work will start from June 3 and continue till August 31.
Priyanka, who is a student of Silchar’s Assam University, will complete her PhD on ‘Ecosystem Services and Economic Valuation of Chatla – A Floodplain Wetland of Barak Valley in Southern Assam’ in November this year under the guidance of Dr Tapati Das, an Assistant Professor in the Ecology Department of the university.
Priyanka has sincerely acknowledged Professor Biman Kumar Dutta, member of North Eastern Council, for her Wetland Ambassador fellowship.
