HAILAKANDI, June 1 - The Hailakandi district administration has called for maintaining peace and communal harmony during the observance of the ensuing Id-ul-Fitr.
In a meeting convened by the district administration at the Deputy Commissioner (DC)’s conference hall here today, DC Keerthi Jalli appealed to the Muslim community to observe the upcoming Id-ul-Fitr peacefully.
She said Id is an occasion to rejoice as well as to promote communal harmony, love, tolerance and compassion, and also hoped the festivity would be the harbinger of peace, progress and development in the district.
“Let bygones be bygones and let us all rise in unison and work together to help build bridges of understanding, unity and brotherhood among different communities to take Hailakandi district on the path of peace, progress and prosperity in the days ahead,” said Jalli.
Religious leaders, eminent citizens, political leaders, organisations and media persons present in the meeting thanked the Deputy Commissioner for convening the meeting and assured to cooperate with the administration in ensuring smooth and peaceful observance of Id.
Other top officials from the district administration were also present in the meeting.
It may be mentioned here that Hailakandi witnessed group clashes on May 10 and an indefinite curfew was clamped in the district. One died in police firing and several people received injuries in the incident.
