Assam Power Minister visits Tripura projects
Correspondent
AGARTALA, July 27 – Assam Power Minister Pradyut Bordoloi along with NEEPCO Chairman cum Managing Director PC Pankaj on July 25 visited two power project sites – Palatana in South Tripura district and Manarchak in Sipahijala district.

The inspection was aimed at having a first-hand knowledge about the progress of the 726 MW power project at Palatana scheduled to be operational by next month. Assam will receive 156 MW of power from the 726 MW power project at Palatana, according an agreement.

Bordoloi told mediapersons here that he had a meeting with Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey, Additional Chief Secretary K Satyanarayan and CMD of TSECL Niladri Sekhar Chakarborty. In the meeting, an elaborate discussion was held on the evacuation of power from the Palatana power plant.

He said the Ministry of Forest and Environment has already given environmental clearance to erect transmission line from Silchar to Bongaigaon. “The work will start very shortly,” he said.

In Assam, the power consumption has been increasing by 16 percent each year, leading to massive power shortfall, Bordoloi said, adding that the Palatana power would bring respite to some extent.
