GUWAHATI, July 18 - Rotary Club of Guwahati celebrated its 65th installation ceremony on July 16 at the Institution of Engineers, Panbazar here, according to a press release issued here today. The new board of directors led by GN Khound for the Rotary year 19-20 was installed on the occasion.
Sharing his experiences, outgoing president ANNI Laskar said Rotary carries out a very wide range of activities for the needy section of society and natural calamities. He laid emphasis on turning schools with infrastructural deficiencies into happy schools by providing them with furniture, books, constructing toilets, etc. He also stressed generation of awareness among people particularly students on non-communicable diseases like stroke, heart ailments, kidney ailments, diabetes, etc.
Rotary’s outgoing secretary Mishbahur Rahman made a power point presentation on activities carried out by the club during the Rotary year 18-19.
Rotary president Khound highlighted this year’s theme ‘Rotary Connects the World’ and appealed to Rotarians to build the connections that allow talented and generous people to unite and take meaningful action through Rotary services.
Chief guest Dr Aswini Kr Baruwa laid emphasis on conservation and judicious use of natural resources for sustainable development. He advised natural resources management, that is, sustainable utilisation of natural resources like water, air, minerals, wood, land. etc. These natural resources in a chain provide an ecosystem that contributes to better quality of human life, he pointed out.
The pressure on natural resources has been aggravated seriously due to infrastructural development and growth in population. He stressed making people aware of e-waste which contains toxic and harmful elements. There is an urgent need for awareness on handling growing e-waste.
