GUWAHATI, July 18 – The fourth North East Football Championship, organised by Brihattar Beltola Krira Bikash Samittee, which was earlier scheduled to be held from July 26 at the Sarusajai Stadium, has been postponed.
Now the tournament will kick start on July 29 and Narbam Surjuday Club will play against LNCPE, Sonapur in the opening match.
Disclosing this in a press conference at Abhiruchi Institute of Physical Education premises here today, vice-president of the organising body Allen Boro said due to the on going Pilik Choudhury and Dewkon Trophy football tournaments they had to postponed the tournament.
Boro said the tournament will be organised among 32 teams and it will be a knock-out affair. He further revealed that any player can take part in the meet. A couple of team from neighbouring State Meghalaya will be seen in action like previous years.
The champion team will be richer by Rs 51,001 along with the Joyram Medhi Memorial Trophy. Likewise the runners- up team will get Rs 26,001 and the Dhiren Boro Memorial Trophy while the best disciplined team will be awarded Rs 7,001 in cash and the Loknath Choudhury Memorial Trophy. Apart from this, the best players of the tournament (Rs 6,001), best players of the final (Rs 6,001), best goalkeeper of the tournament (Rs 5,001), and highest scorer of the tournament (Rs 5,001) will be given cash awards.
The organisers opined that to find talent at the grass-root level, the tournament has been organised where teams from places like Sonapur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Bijni, Udalguri, etc., will take part. They provide Rs 1,500 to the winning teams from second round onwards.
Organising president Haragauri Basumatary, general secretary Bishnu Rangthulu, adviser Balendra Mohan Chakravorty, former footballer Bholaram Kro were also present in the press conference and threw light on various subjects of the championship.
