GUWAHATI, July 16 - Saoli, a short-film by Kuldip Medhi, has made it to the competition section of the 5th Figueira Da Foz International Film Festival (Film Art 2019) in Portugal and the 14th Marbella International Film Festival 2019 in Spain.

Only 67 short-films have been selected from among 2,885 entries from 123 countries.
Saoli narrates the story of a little girl who feels the pain of being born with dark complexion and the mindset of society that feels that dark-complexioned people are meant for inferior works. The 7.48-minute short-film in Sadri language is based on tea tribes of Assam. All artistes are from families of tea garden labourers and hail from nearby places of the tea garden, where the film was shot. The lead character is played by seven-year-old Jishna Bordoloi.
The Portuguese festival will be held from September 5 to 15 in Lisbon, while the Marbella festival will be held in Marbella, Spain from October 2 to 6.
Till now, Saoli has been selected for the Ahmedabad International Children Film Festival 2019, Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival 2019 in Mumbai, Crown Wood International Film Festival 2019 in Kolkata, Banaras Film Festival 2019 in Varanasi, Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival 2019, National Documentary & Short Film Festival 2019 at Thrissur.
It has also won several awards in Kolkata, Pune, Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, Mumbai and Chennai.
Saoli has been produced by Suren Medhi and Shrutidhara Medhi, and its cinematographer is Pranab Haloi, sound designer is Debajit Gayan, while the music is by Manoj Sarma.
