|HC directive to Govt on asymptomatic patients|
The Gauhati High Court on Monday directed the State government to submit whatever notifications it has issued so far on testing of asymptomatic COVID-19 patients. The matter is listed for August 3 next.
Acting on a PIL petition (No- 40 of 2020) filed by advocate Daiyan Hussain, a practising lawyer of the Gauhati High Court, Chief Justice Ajay Lamba directed the government counsel to produce before the court on August 3 next the government notifications on the above issue.
The petitioner complained that there is no notification issued by the State government on testing asymptomatic COVID-19 patients. The government has not issued any notification as to who to test and who not to test and there is no proper guideline for the testing of asymptomatic COVID-19 patients. The petitioner has also pleaded that the testing fee for determining COVID-19 at private hospitals be reduced to Rs 2,200 from the present Rs 4,500.
Delhi-based advocate Sumit Rajput represented the petitioner, while senior advocate Debojit Saikia represented the government in the case.
