JORABAT, July 13 - Due to incessant rains, landslides at several points along the National Highway-37 from Khanapara to Jorabat gave a tough time to the police in assuring safety to the passersby on Monday.

The landslide that occurred in the 9th Mile area near the Gate No-1 of the group centre of CRPF on Monday morning damaged a couple of high-capacity electricity poles after a part of the boundary wall of the group centre fell down on the road with a huge chunk of land. The debris blocked the drain along the NH-37, resulting in waterlogging on the road.

Locals alleged that due to lack of maintenance by the highway authorities, the narrow drainage system has been lying choked for a long time. They added that the scenario is not new to the people here. Every time, rain triggers waterlogging for several hours in the area, the locals said.

Meanwhile, landslides at several interior villages of 8th Mile area like Kamla Bagan, Boro Basti, Milanpur, Christian Basti, Nepali Basti and Chisakhola were also reported on Monday evening.
