CM asks NEEPCO to regulate dam waters
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI, July 12 - In view of the deluge witnessed in Lakhimpur district due to the sudden release of excess water by the NEEPCO from its Ranganadi dam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal strongly warned the power generation company authorities not to repeat the mistake this year.

Reviewing the flood situation in North Lakhimpur today, Sonowal said that because of the sudden release of water by the NEEPCO without any warning, people in a large portion of Lakhimpur district have to face tremendous difficulty. He also expressed displeasure at the lack of planning on the part of the NEEPCO, which results in annual inundation of the district.

Directing the NEEPCO authorities to build a reservoir for holding water, the Chief Minister urged the company to adopt advanced engineering technology and knowhow. He also warned them to stay prepared to pay for the losses of the people affected by flood caused by Ranganadi dam’s water in the coming days.

The Chief Minister also directed the State health department to organise health camps in flood-affected areas. He instructed the veterinary department to work with sensitivity towards domestic animals and livestock.

Sonowal asked the APDCL to inspect all power transmission lines to prevent mishaps during floods, besides directing the food and civil supplies department to ensure adequate supply of essential commodities.

He also directed the water resources department to monitor the embankment construction works implemented under MGNREGA.
