|NEHU launches its own digital repository|
SHILLONG, July 12 – Initiated about two years back with the objective of compiling and archiving scholarly publications of its faculty members, which are highly cited and ranked in academic world, and make them available on global network for wider accessibility and use, the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has launched its own institutional digital repository.
The repository is accessible on http://dspace.nehu.ac.in.
The repository includes all other NEHU publications, like ordinance, regulations, statutes, proceedings and minutes of academic and executive council meetings, annual reports, all issues of NEHU Journal, PhD and MPhil theses submitted in NEHU. All have been made available on desktop environment and searchable on every access points of common user of information.
In addition to this scope of the digital repository, it has developed a large database on Northeast covering literature published on Northeast in the form of books, journals, articles, and others.
Since, Northeast is an important area of research particularly for anthropologist, sociologists, economists and environmentalists and other scientists from India and abroad, so keeping in view this information needs NEHU further aims at developing a rich digital resource on Northeast for the benefit of researchers and all those who are interested in knowing about the region.
Since there is no such digital lab in whole of Northeast, so NEHU may also take up digitization projects of old books and manuscripts and other materials needing preservation and archiving on request from local and neighboring institutions.
