GUWAHATI, July 11 - Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated the dedicated building of Gauhati Artists’ Guild at a programme held here this evening. The building was built on a plot of land given by Government of Assam.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor termed the Gauhati Artists’ Guild a premier organisation and a forerunner in the field of art and culture in the North East.
“The organisation has proudly taken the responsibility to promote arts of the North East to the entire world. Getting a building which is exclusively its own would help the guild to take its services more resolutely transcending all boundaries,” he said.
At the programme which was organised synchronising with the 46th foundation day of the guild, the Governor said that the Guild deserved credit for being an ardent exponent of art and culture for the last 46 years.
“I am happy to know that the new building named ‘Dream Art Complex’ at Chandmari is self-contained with artistically designed and planned architecture creating space for art galleries, artists’ studio, and spaces for residents and guest artists, with state-of-the-art aesthetically designed spaces for creative work, and dwelling,” he stated.
On the occasion, Prof Mukhi felicitated artist Pulak Gogoi. He also visited an exhibition of masks by the Govt College of Art and Craft.
Distinguished writer Nirupama Borgohain and president of Gauhati Artists’ Guild Aminul Haque along with a host of dignitaries were present on the occasion.
