|Alert Citizens’ Forum decries ‘provocative, irresponsible’ utterances|
GUWAHATI, July 11 - The “provocative, irresponsible and mischievous writings and utterances” of a certain section of the Bengali-speaking intellectuals and public leaders giving rise to enmity and misunderstanding among different sections of the people, have been condemned by the Alert Citizens’ Forum.
Forum president DN Chakravartty said this in reference to the speeches of former minister Siddique Ahmed, minority leader Rashidul Haq Bahadur and educationist Dr Tapodhir Bhattacharjee during the last few days.
Chakravartty referred to an article in a Bengali daily of Kolkata by Dr Bhattacharjee and said that it is very unfortunate that a person who was given shelter and honour by the people of Assam in a university had gone to the extent of slandering Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi, besides lodging false allegations against the Assamese people.
Referring to the “irresponsible and anti-national utterances” by Siddique Ahmed and Haq Bahadur, Chakravartty said it would seriously weaken national solidarity and generate misunderstanding and hatred among a cross-section of the people of Assam.
