HAFLONG, July 10 - At least three unauthorised bus and Tata Sumo counters operating without any valid documents were shut down after a drive conducted by the Dima Hasao District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner, Juri Phukan, along with teams of the District Enforcement Force and Traffic Police, at the public vehicle terminals here on Thursday.
During the joint drive, the Deputy Commissioner checked all the relevant documents of private travel agencies and their ticket counters. Some counters without proper documents were sealed and their operators were asked to visit her office with appropriate documents to continue their services.
Phukan also checked the unauthorised parking areas and asked the Traffic Police personnel to clear the parking places within 20 days for the smooth plying of vehicles. She also visited the meat and fish markets and asked the vendors to use the market sheds.
Conscious citizens here have appreciated the District Magistrate’s intiative to curb the mushroom growth of unauthorised bus and Tata Sumo counters in and around Haflong town. They also expressed their surprise that such unauthorised counters had been functioning under the very nose of the District Enforcement Force.
The DC warned that she would not allow such illegal activities after the deadline of 20 days set by her for necessary corrective measures. She reiterated that she would not compromise on the issue of safety and security of the people.
