GUWAHATI, July 10 – The All Assam Students’ Union today resorted to a State-wide National Highway blockade in protest against the unprecedented rise in the prices of essential commodities.
In Kamrup district, AASU members blocked the highways at Chaygaon, Baihata Chariali and Beltola.
In a statement, the AASU said that the failure of the Government to check price rise was shameful and unless some improvements was there in the situation in the coming days, the AASU would intensify its stir.
Our Correspondents add: Mangaldai: Hundreds of supporters of All Darrang District Students’ Union today observed one hour NH 52 blockade at Mangaldai Bhebarghat from 12.30 to 1.30 in the afternoon. The protesters shouted slogans alleging total failure in checking the price rise and demanded immediate action for reducing prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene, LPG along with other essential commodities.
Dergaon: NH-37 was blocked for one hour at Dergaon Chariali by the AASU activists. More than two hundred members of AASU under the aegis of Dergaon Anchalik Students Union gathered on the road at around 11.55 am and shouted slogans against the uncontrolled price hike of essential commodities along with the petroleum products.
Baihata Chariali: Protesting against the price hike of essential commodities including petroleum products like LPG, kerosene, petrol and diesel oil, the Rangiya sub-division unit of AASU along with Pub-Kamrup unit of AASU blocked the national highway 31 at Baihata Chariali.
