AAI team visits Majuli, seaplane service on cards

 JORHAT, July 7 - A team comprising of officials from the Airport Authority of India (AAI), SpiceJet and other concerned departments visited river island Majuli on Thursday to conduct a study regarding starting of a seaplane service on the Guwahati-Kaziranga-Majuli route.

A district administration source stated that the proposed seaplane service will be operated by SpiceJet and the aircraft will be manufactured in Japan.

The team, also having senior officials from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) along with State Water Resources Department, will carry out a study to set up a water aerodrome for aircraft operations, the source said.

The team, led by Sangeeta Mahay, GM of AAI, held a meeting with Majuli Deputy Commissioner Debaprasad Misra on Thursday night.

Senior district administration officials along with those of Water Resources Department of Majuli were also present at the meeting, the source added.
