GUWAHATI, July 3 - The repair work of the damaged water pump at the Satpukhuri water supply treatment plant will be completed by Wednesday.

A source in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) said that since June 14, the repair work has been going on in full swing after an expert from Kolkata was brought in for the purpose.

“A part of the damaged pump consumed much time, due to which the work has become lengthy. The expert informed the GMC that by Wednesday, the problem would be fixed and normal water supply restored,” the source said.

The GMC has already sought replacement of the pump as the warranty is not over yet. Water is being supplied with the municipal water tankers to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the GMC has assembled an old pump and kept it ready in case the old pumps suffer any damage.

“At the Satpukhuri plant, two old pumps are already functioning. In addition to that, an old pump has also been kept ready in case of any probable breakdown in the old machinery,” the source said.

Moreover, renovation work of the water reservoir at Nizarapar will be started soon. The work order has already been given to the contractor concerned.
