Doubts expressed over judicious use of funds
Staff reporter
GUWAHATI, July 3 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday insisted that the central aid announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for Assam to tide over the flood crisis should be utilized through central agencies only.

BJP national vice president Bijoya Chakravorty said that the amount of Rs 500 crore assured by the Prime Minister was not enough to tackle the situation.

“We don’t have faith in the State machinery, which is completely corrupted. So we are demanding that the aid be utilized through central agencies only,” said Chakravorty.

The senior BJP leader slammed the Tarun Gogoi government for failing to provide medicine, drinking water, bleaching powder etc in the flood affected areas and expressed the fear that an epidemic might break out soon.
