Mangaldai student shines in HS despite losing father during exams
Correspondent

MANGALDAI, June 30 - Pubali, Mayurika and Manashi brought laurels to Darrang district by securing ranks in the Arts stream of the Higher Secondary examination, results of which were declared recently.

However, there are other meritorious students of the district who might have missed a rank, but will be remembered by the educationally and socially conscious circle here for their abilities to overcome adverse personal circumstances.

Subham Das of Ward No. 5 here is one such young ‘real hero’ who grossed an average of 95.3% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics while losing his father in the midst of the examination.

Subham, lone child of Debabrata Das and Dipti Das, lost his father, a petty trader, who wished to see his only son excel in academics.

A student of Salt Brook Academy, Dibrugarh, Subham had to rush to Mangaldai in order to perform the religious rituals associated with his father’s demise and then return to Dibrugarh to appear in the next examination.

He secured a total of 455 marks with an aggregate of 91% marks, with 97 in Physics, 95 in Mathematics and 94 in Chemistry and narrowly missing a rank, but showed great composure and determination.

It may be mentioned that in the HSLC examination too, Subham with an average of 96.2% marks missed a rank by a whisker.
