ITANAGAR, June 30 - The Itanagar Capital Complex Police today arrested a man in connection with the assault on a journalist after an FIR was filed at the Nirjuli Police Station under sections 341/325/506 of the IPC.

As per the police complaint, Hofe Dada, a reporter with digital media outlet ‘Gyoloo News’, who had gone to SMS Smelters Ltd at Lekhi village on Monday for a report, was accosted by four men. One of them even slapped him without any provocation. Besides, they threatened him not to report or else he would meet the same fate as senior journalist Tongam Rina, who was shot at, in her office here in 2012.

“During investigation, the unknown accused person, Nangram Tapuk (34), working as a security-cum-vigilance officer of M/s SMS Smelters Ltd has been arrested,” stated Arunachal Pradesh Police PRO Dr Navdeep Singh Brar. Further investigation is on, he added.

Meanwhile, the Indian Journalists Union has condemned the assault on journalist Hofe Dada.
