GUWAHATI, June 30 - A dead person tested positive for COVID-19, taking the number of deaths linked to the virus to 12. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said 50-year-old Dilip Talukdar of Fatasil Ambari was brought dead to GMCH on June 22. The State’s total cases rose to 8,407, with 613 cases detected on Tuesday (till 11.55 pm). As many as 380 cases were reported in Guwahati alone during the day.
“Subsequently, he was tested positive for COVID-19. With this our death toll goes up to12,” he said.
Till evening, 41 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the State, five of them were from Kamrup (Metro) and 18 from Sonitpur district. Two media persons – both associated with local TV channels - in Guwahati have also tested positive for the virus. A transgender couple in Bongaigaon has also tested positive.
During the day, 314 patients were also discharged from different hospitals.
Meanwhile, the 250-bed COVID-19 Hospital at Patanjali Yogpeeth, Mirza has begun operations from today.
The Health Minister visited the hospital and assured all help to doctors and staff by the State Government. “This facility boosts our pandemic management infrastructure,” he said.
