NEW DELHI, Jan 28 – In a last minute strategy change, the AICC changed its pecking order, placing its alliance partner Biswajit Daimary as its third candidate.
Bhubaneswar Kalita and Sanjay Singh have been placed as its first and second candidates respectively. The Congress has enough numbers to get its first two candidates elected comfortably and with a few votes to spare.
However, Daimary is likely to face a tough time getting additional votes, with the Opposition deciding to field a common candidate. “The BPF is close to BJP and we have left the Bodo partners to seek additional support from the Opposition,” said a senior Congress leader.
According to an earlier decision, the Congress had decided to place Singh in number one position, the BPF candidate in second and Kalita in the third position. The order was changed this morning and Kalita, who was apprehensive of losing his seat, was brought to the number one slot, said sources.
