GUWAHATI, Jan 28 – The 33rd edition of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) Inter Unit Athletics Championship, under the aegis of Oil India Limited (OIL), got off to a colourful start at the SAI North East Regional Sub Centre complex at Paltanbazar here today.
OIL Chairman and Managing Director SK Srivastava formally inaugurated the championship in the well organised opening ceremony.
Altogether 105 athletes, including veterans and women from 8 PSPB units like ONGCL, EIL, GAIL, HP, IOCL, IOC (AOD), NRL, OIL are taking part in the three-day meet.
All the participating teams took part in march past and later international athletes Sunil Degra and Kushal Lahon lit the tournament flame.
Top OIL officers TK Duarah, GM Pipeline and organising committee president, R Choudhury, GM (OSD) Pipeline and chairman of organising committee, Rajen Gogoi, president IOWU, Tridib Duvarah, Manager PR & Co-ordination and secretary of organising committee, Subhash Basumatary, SAI city centre director in-charge were present on the occasion. Choudhury welcomed the gathering and the athletes in the function. Organising secretary Tridib Duvarah gave details about the championship in his speech.
Speaking on the occasion, Srivastava urged the athletes to show their best in the meet. He also praised the officials of the organising committee for holding the event in a wonderful manner.
Today’s gold medal winners are: Manjit Singh (1500m, ONGCL), Surender Singh (shot put, HPCL), Harshith S (high jump, ONGCL), Amiya Mallik (100m, IOCL), Pabitra Bhuyan (veteran shot put, IOCL AOD), MR Poovama (women 100m, ONGCL). Two Assam athletes Rajani Chetia (silver in veterans shot put) and Ranjan Sarma (bronze in men’s high jump, ONGCL) won medals today.
