5 arrested for abduction of youth
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI, Jan 27 – Five persons including a woman were arrested by police in the last three days in yet another case of honey trapping and subsequent abduction of the son of a Guwahati-based hotelier and businessman.

Those arrested have been identified as Tamanna Nath (25), Bapan Nath (30), Aftabuddin (35), Riazuddin Ali (40) and Md Jamiuddin (26).

The gang of five has been charged for setting a honey-trap for a 25-year-old boy and then abducting him on November 19 last year.

Interestingly, the family that had initially lodged a missing report with the Paltan Bazar tried to mislead the police after the victim returned home on December 26.

“The investigators smelt a rat and registered a case on January 23. During further investigation, it was found that the boy was set free by his abductors on payment of Rs 30 lakh as ransom,” SSP (City) AP Tiwari told mediapersons.

The victim, according to investigators, was first taken to a resort in Sonapur and then to Nagaon where he was kept hostage.
