|Silchar joins cycle rally for fuel conservation|
SILCHAR, Jan 21 - In sync with 200 cities of the country, including Dibrugarh and Guwahati, Silchar, which is the the second-biggest city in the state, joined Saksham Cycle Rally on Sunday.
Patronised by Numaligarh Refinery Limited, around 300 cyclists of all age groups assembled at the police parade ground here and rallied for 5 kms till zero point on the East West corridor at Madhura point and back, spreading messages of fuel conservation and pollution control.
Silchar legislator Dilip Kumar Paul spontaneously participated in the rally along with the others. Spokesperson of the state BJP Dr Rajdeep Roy, who was the coordinator of the event, thanked the participants of the cyclathon and highlighted the two-pronged benefits of riding bicycles as a matter of routine. Besides being an excellent physical exercise, it helps to maintain normal circulation, he said.
