DIBRUGARH, Jan 21 – Prantor Baruah, golf captain of Dibrugarh & District Planters' Club, has been officially certified ‘A’ category golf referee for India.
The world's golf governing body at Royal & St Andrews, Scotland, known as R&A, conducts rules examination in India in collaboration with Indian Golf Union (IGU) to create a pool of referees in the country. Baruah had first cleared their ‘C’ level exam in Coimbatore last August and recently in Hyderabad he cleared both ‘B’ and ‘A’ levels.
He is now the first ‘A’ category R&A IGU certified referee from the North East and the second from entire eastern India.
A handicap golfer himself, Baruah has been always passionate about golf rules and has been officiating as the chairman, rules committee, Upper Assam Golf Association, and refereeing local tournaments for a number of years. And now with R&A IGU the new certificate he can professionally undertake any such assignments anywhere in the country and is eligible to referee in national as well as international tournaments held in India.
