Thousands throng Indo-Bhutan Friendship Mela
 MUSHALPUR, Jan 21 – Thousands of people are thronging the fourth Indo-Bhutan Friendship Mela and the 62nd edition of the historic Subankhata Magh Mela that started from January 17.

The stalls of handloom and textile items drew good response from the beginning. The Bhutanese stalls of kitchen ware became a source of attraction for the housewives. Besides, BRAWFED garment stalls have been set up by traders from Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

The week-long mela got under way with the opening of the main archway by HP Rajkumar, SDO Civil (Sadar), Baksa and hoisting of Indian Tricolour by Babul Chandra Barbaruah, Deputy Commissioner of Baksa and Bhutanese flag by Goling Tsering, DC of Sandroop Ddjongkhar. A pair of pigeons were released by Gautam Bora, SP, Baksa along with the SP of Sandroop Djongkhar to symbolise the peaceful coexistence of the two neighbouring nations. Noted columnist Dr Prafulla Mahanta graced the open session along with Banamali Boro, Executive Member, Handloom and Textile, BTC. The EM observed that the people on either side of Indo-Bhutan border have been in close terms since ages and the Indo-Bhutan Friendship Mela at Subankhata will invigorate the age-old ties between the citizens of the neighbouring countries. Strengthening of trade relations, sharing of skills and exchange of culture will benefit both the countries”. A multilingual colourful cultural programme marked the opening programme and the same will continue till the end of the mela.
