|Heroin seized, 6 arrested in Mizoram|
AIZAWL, Jan 20 - At least six people, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the seizure of 1.5 kg of heroin in Champhai town in Mizoram near the Myanmar border, an official of the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department said on Monday.
Department spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga said officials of the anti-narcotic squad of the department and volunteers of Champhai’s Zotlang locality intercepted an Aizawl-bound Santro car at Ruantlang locality on Sunday night and seized 1.5 kg of heroin, which was concealed in packets inside the gear box, dashboard and boot of the car. The contraband valued at Rs 36 lakh in the local market was smuggled from Myanmar.
The accused have been identified as Lalrinchhana (32), Jacob Lalhriatpuia (28), Malsawmtluanga (28), and Lalnunthanga (23), from Zotlang locality, and Hmingthansanga (29) and Lallianpari (44), from Dartetui village. They were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The six were produced before a special judge and sent to Champhai district jail on Monday.
