GUWAHATI, Jan 20 - As an initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission, all media units under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, North East Zone, are currently observing Swachhta Pakhwada.
The fortnight-long event has started on January 16 and will conclude on January 31.
As part of the Swachhta Pakhwada, the media units under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, North East Zone, are taking various cleanliness activities in their respective offices.
These activities include cleaning the office premises and surroundings and weeding out old files, among other things.
All employees of the offices are taking part in the activities voluntarily as a contribution towards the success of Swachh Bharat Mission.
It is noteworthy that to accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put the focus on sanitation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2, 2014.
Launched in April 2016, Swachhta Pakhwada is an initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
It seeks to engage all Union ministries and departments in Swachhta-related activities, thereby making Swachhta regular practice for everyone.
The Swachh Bharat Mission is now in its final year of implementation with the rural sanitation coverage has increased from 39 per cent at the launch in October 2014 to over 98 per cent now, as per government data.
