SIVASAGAR, Jan 19 - Political parties like the BJP, INC, AGP and Sanmilita Ganashakti have geared up their preparation for the Mising and Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) election to be held on January 21.
For the No. 17 Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council Rajabari constituency comprising areas in seven villages at Nitai-Panidihing and Bamrajabari, Bhatgaj and Bokota Sonapur, the BJP has fielded Jadov Deka Baruah as its candidate while Kamal Kachari and Subhrajit Sonowal are the candidates for INC and Sonowal Kochari Gana Morcha (Independent).
For the No. 34 Mising Autonomous Council (MAC) Desung-Dihing constituency, the candidates are Bristi Panging Mili of the BJP, Renuka Mili of the Congress and Niva Pegu of Sanmilita Gana Shakti.
There are 22 polling stations for MAC and 10 polling stations for SKAC in the district. There are 16,238 voters in the MAC Desung-Dekhow constituency area, where 8,190 voters are male and 8,048 are female. In SKAC Rajabari constituency area, the total number of voters is 4,268, of which 2,214 are male and 2,054 female.
Polling officials engaged for the MAC are 70, while for SKAC they are 30. Training for the polling officials was held on January 17 and 18. The DDC of Sivasagar Nawab Al Azhar Ali presided over the meeting held for the zonal and sector officers at the Suikapha Bhawan today which was also attended by ADC Aswini Doley, Jagadish Brahma,Election Officer and the circle officers of Demow and Sivasagar, Monorama Morung and Sampretee Goswami.
The Election Officer called upon the electorate to contact the district administration anytime over phone by ringing up 03772-222801 and 03772-222172 in case of a complaint. In the meantime, police, homeguards and VDPs have been deployed in the demarcated areas.
The district election officer in a meeting held yesterday urged the contesting candidates to abide by the rules and regulations set by the Election Commission and also to submit authentic accounts of expenditure on campaigning to the authority within the stipulated time.
For the ruling BJP, the SKAC and MAC elections will be a litmus test as it will reflect the voters’ verdict over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016 and several other political issues awaiting final settlement.
