Bodo nun Agnes Basumatary passes away

 DIBRUGARH, Jan 19 - Sister Agnes Basumatary, one of the pioneering missionaries from the Bodo community passed away today at a private nursing home here following illness. She was 77.

Sister Agnes was born on February 12, 1941 to Abraham Basumatary and Linda Basumatary of Bogapuri village in Udalguri district. In order to become a nun, she joined the congregation of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians in the year 1967 at St Mary’s Convent, Barpeta Road, Assam. After four years of religious training, she entered her religious profession on December 8, 1971.

The funeral service will be held on January 22 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bishop’s House here at 10 am and the last rites will be performed at the cemetery in St Mary’s Convent here, Sister Daisy Jacob, the Provincial Superior, informed.
