GUWAHATI, Jan 19 - The Assam Sports and Cultural Festival has announced its annual awards in different fields.
The lifetime achievement awardees include Dr Prabir Bardoloi (Medicine), Nanda Banerjee (Culture), Ambika Charan Barman (Social Service), Jahanara Begum (Literature), Rajiv Prakash Baruah (Sports), and PJ Baruah (Journalism).
The annual awardees are Joseph Lepcha of Sikkim (Best Journalist), Nagen Bongjang (Best Sports Organiser), Hriday Hazarika (Best Player – Shooting), Khargeswar Das (Best Cultural Organiser – Amateur Drama), Ramesh Talukdar (Best Playwright), and Prafulla Barman (Literature).
Actor Adhar Das, singer Dr Shyamal Prasad Saikia, writer Manisha Sarma, drama activist Siddhartha Roy, sculptor Deep Ahmed and publisher Lily Devi Kakati have been chosen for special jury awards.
The best drama group in the Mobile Theatre category has gone to Bhagyadevi Theatre. Mridul Bhuyan (Man Mayurir Sansar) and Prastuti Parashar (Madhuri Mor Naam) have won the award for the best actor and actress respectively, while Mridul Chutiya bagged the best playwright award.
The award ceremony will be held at Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir at 5 pm on February 9 on the occasion of the 105th birth anniversary of Louhapurush Premada Kanta Sarma.
Dr Surendra Mohan Mahanta, Ganesh Kumar Chubba, Pempa Tamang and Urmila Chakravarty will also be felicitated on the occasion.
