GUWAHATI, Jan 19 - The Assam Tribune Employees’ Union (ATEU) today condoled the untimely demise of Sikha Bhattacharya, a senior employee of the Assam Tribune group of newspapers who passed away on Friday.
The meeting, held under the presidentship of ATEU vice president Partha Pratim Hazarika, recalled the deceased Bhattacharya’s dedicated service and her qualities of the head and heart.
Assam Tribune group Managing Director PG Baruah remembered Bhattacharya as a responsible and efficient employee and said that the untimely death of the ever-ebullient person who used to be in the forefront of various social activities has deeply hurt everyone in the Assam Tribune establishment.
Director Babita Rajkhowa termed her death “shocking and unbearable” and said that the void created by Bhattacharya’s absence would be felt for long.
Asom Bani Editor Dilip Chandan said the late Bhattacharya was a gifted individual who had the unique capacity to befriend anyone and everyone immediately. She also had a natural talent of an organiser, he added.
ATEU assistant secretary Tankeswar Kakati also spoke on similar lines. Shiva Prasad Deka, Jiten Kalita, Niyoti Rani Sinha, Hiranya Kumar Barman, Dulali Devi, Keshab Kalita and Pranab Dutta Goswami also recollected their association with Bhattacharya.
The meeting observed a minute’s silence in honour of the departed soul.
