Sushmita Dev starts LS poll campaign in Silchar, faces ire
Staff Correspondent
SILCHAR, Jan 20: Congress MP from Silchar Sushmita Dev on Sunday said that the 2019 Lok Sabha elections will be a fight between "anti-poor" and "anti-constitutional" Prime Minister Narendra Modi versus the "pro-people approach" of the Congress.

Addressing a gathering of nearly 3,000 people at Madhurband, politically popular as Barakpar, a bastion of the Congress party in Cachar district, Sushmita said "the message is clear, we are against the anti-constitutional Prime Minister."

A group of youths staged a protest demonstration and displayed black flags against the Silchar Parliamentarian shouting 'Go back' slogans acusing her of supporting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Reacting to this, Sushmita said "everyone has the democratic right of expression. There are many views on the Bill and I stand with the views expressed by the Silchar District Congress before the JPC."
