GUWAHATI, Jan 18 – After a long wait of 17 years, finally, the elections to the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) are going to take place. The State Election Commission today notified elections to the RHAC. As per the schedule notified by the Commission, elections to the RHAC will be held on April 30 and counting of the votes will take place on May 2 next.The draft electoral roll is to be published on March 12 and claims, objections for addition, deletion or correction in the draft electoral roll should be submitted by March 28. March 30 has been fixed as the last date for disposal of such claims, objections etc. The final electoral roll is to be published on April 1 next.
The State Election Commission shall notify the poll on April 2 and April 9 has been fixed as the last date for filing of nominations for the elections.
The nomination papers would be scrutinized on April 10. For withdrawal and publication of the list of contesting candidates April 12 has been fixed as the date.
The Commission has appointed Preetam Saikia, IAS, as the District Election Officer for Goalpara for conduct of the RHAC elections in the areas falling in Goalpara district. It has also appointed Supriya Kumar Roy as the District Election Officer for Kamrup district for conduct of the ensuing election to the RHAC in the areas falling in Kamrup district.
The Commission has also notified the time schedule for delimitation of the constituencies in connection with the elections to the RHAC.
As per this schedule, the draft notification for delimitation of constituencies is to be published on February 20, 2013. It has fixed February 21 to 28 as the period for receiving any public representation for any addition, alteration by the District Election Officers.
